Tatum's Muse live at the Elks Club Outdoor Terrace
2026 has been a breakout year for the band Tatum's Muse. With well-attended shows at Papermill Creek Saloon, Pond Fram Brewing Company, The Depot Mill Valley, Ranch Water Bar, and the San Rafael Elks Club, they have successfully shown that an original music band can thrive in an era of tribute and cover bands.
This article discuss how a bunch of guys (and their younger drummer) on the backend of fatherhood years, used their extra time to write some great songs and develop them to perform at live shows .

In their minimalist format of two guitars and three voices, they perform from their extensive original catalog.
This is a great band, worth checking out. They do their own original music and covers that are fun to sing along and dance to. As a lover of horns, Ken plays a mean sax featured throughout their sets ~ love it !! Always a great time with Tatum's Muse! Thank you Ken and all the band !!
Tatum's Muse is one of Marin's newest and most original bands. Having over a set's worth of original song titles, most written in just the last couple years, their songbook is inspired by Marin County's wonderful live music scene and the interesting times we live in, Tatum's Muse is about bringing community together for party and dance!
Tatum's Muse began as few friends and a music loving dog (Tatum) playing in a San Rafael West End garage studio. Eventually they moved the act to the backyard for some now legendary parties. From there they moved down the hill to the Pond Farm Brewing Company, where they regularly play to a packed house with the North Bay Vibe Tribe (150+-member Facebook Group) always in strong attendance. With the band having several new original songs just written this last year, including I Feel Like I'm Faking It! My Fifteenth Minutes of Fame, Stand Up and I Got Too Stoned, they are taking their act to the world with new bookings at Pond Farm Brewing in San Rafael (May 23, 5pm) and an outdoor day-at-the-beach concert at Smiley's Saloon in the historic town of Bolinas (Aug 2, 3-5pm).
Although the band originally leaned towards Americana/outlaw country, they find equal joy rocking out and exploring just about every genre (reggae, pop, funk). With a full set of original music coming from the band's soon-to-be-relased album and a couple sets worth of carefully curated covers, the band is sure to entertain and likely get you out of your seat dancing.

Tatum's Muse is (in chronological order):
Ken Graven: Guitar, Vocals, Sax

Multi-instrumentalist (guitar, saxophone), songwriter, arranger, engineer, producer, Ken hosts the band's rehearsals in his San Rafael West End Studio that has become the talk of neighborhood! A resident of Marin County the last nine years, Ken recently played with the Mill Valley Music All Stars at the Throckmorton Theater for a tribute to the Rolling Stones album Exile On Main Street. Ken has played at Hopmonk, Novato ( with The Marinfidels), Terrapin Crossroads (the Bar), Pond Farm Brewing Company, Sweetwater Music Hall (with Hall Pass and Walking Mirrors), Ranch Nicasio, Papermill Creek Saloon, Peri's (Hall Pass), Mac's (Mitch Woods) and all around the Bay Area and Central Coast.
Jimmy Johnston (@jimmyjazz): Vocals, Harmonica, Percussion

Jimmy is one of the band's founders, musical curator and set list director. As a former co-leader (with Ken) of the Bay Area Americana band High & Lonesome, Jimmy brings exceptional musical sensibilities (honed from his boyhood years in the musically rich Hawaiian Islands), and these can be heard with his heartfelt harmonica solos, and self-assured vocals. Recently his voice was aptly compared to Mike Ness of Social Distortion, and appropriately we have been adding more and more rocking numbers for Jimmy to sing. Then when Jimmy's throws in his grooving percussion parts to the band's sound, you know it is time for the party to get started!
Harold Goldberg: Electric and Standup Bass

As a veteran bassist of the Marin (Hall Pass) and East Bay jam band scene, Harold takes the band on rhythmic and harmonic journeys they might not venture to otherwise. Capable on both electric and acoustic standup bass, he allows Tatum's Muse to transform into any kind of band it needs to be for the occasion at hand.
Eddie Lang: Drums

They say a band is only as good as its drummer. Fortunately, Harold introduced Eddie to the group a few years ago and there has been no turning back since. The youngest member of the group, Eddie brings his energy with a steadiness and groove that is immediately felt by the listener.
Kendall Osborn: Guitar, Vocals

Kendall a resident of San Rafael's Sun Valley, is the band's “King of Tone” (Tone Czar), delivering up tasty sounds and licks, whether it be a slide guitar on a Jackson Brown song, or inventive fret work on a Tatum's Muse originals. Kendall has recently brought in his first original songwriter to the band entitled “Stand Up,” a call for people to unite in these current trying times!
